From time to time, I’ll be writing blog posts about my progress. I’ll be talking about what I’ve learned, my failures, how things are going, and so on, but since this is the first post, I want to inform you how I plan to learn, which mediums I intend to use, which courses I plan to take, and so on. Let’s begin!
MY STARTING POINT
I wouldn’t say I’m a complete beginner, but at the same time, I’ve barely drawn anything for about twenty years. Life got in the way, but a few years ago, I decided to change that. My interest in drawing awakened once more, and on my birthday in 2020, I went to Penstore (an art store in Sweden) and bought art materials for around 600 dollars. It was a nice mix of colored pencils, markers, papers, and other necessary things from brands like Caran Dache, Faber Castell, Promarkers, and more. Of course, you don’t need all of this to learn, but I’m too curious for my own good and I love to explore!
Below, you can see a few images I’ve drawn to show you what my art skills look like right now.
Manga character

ART MEDIUMS I WANT TO LEARN
Colored pencils have always interested me the most of all the art mediums out there, and only recently did my eyes open to markers, watercolors, and gouache. I’ll also be learning digital art.
I don’t think I’ll explore oil, acrylics, or pastels soon because it’ll take years to learn the ones I mentioned above.
COURSES I PLAN TO TAKE
Learning to draw without guidance is not my thing. It’ll take too long to figure out everything on my own, therefore, I’ve invested in a few courses, and I’ll probably invest in some more in the future. Below, you’ll find who I decided to learn from:
MARC BRUNET – Marc is a talented digital artist who used to work for Blizzard. I’ve followed him for a long time on YouTube, and I’ve bought his course Art School for Digital Artists to learn how to draw digitally. It’s a course that’ll take 2-3 years to finish.
The course contains ten terms. You’ll learn programs like Photoshop and Zbrush, and everything from anatomy to perspective and film/game production. I’ve just started the course and I plan to review it as I go along.
SKILLSHARE – I think most people have heard of Skillshare. I found a few interesting courses over there, and decided to give it a go, and since then, I’ve been stuck.
UDEMY – Udemy is similar to Skillshare, but the difference is that you must buy each course separately. Usually, they are very cheap, and I’ve found several good ones.
DOMESTIKA – Domestika is also similar to Skillshare and Udemy, but they lean more toward the Spanish-speaking audience. If you don’t speak Spanish, you can still find good courses there with English translations. There are courses in English there as well.
